Longboard Specialty Coffee from Misty Mountain by Justin Boudeman placed 4th in the 2024 Best of Panama Geisha Washed category. Meanwhile, Longboard Geisha from Windy Ridge figured in the 3rd Place win at the 2024 World Brewers Cup, following several national coffee champions’ showcase of Justin’s coffees since 2022.

It was in the 1990s that Justin, heeding his spirit’s call to adventure, relocated to Panama as a young surfer with a degree in Natural Resource Management focused on Tropical Studies. Coffee had always been beloved to him and central to the sacred surfer ritual known as “dawn patrol,” where they arrive early at their favorite beach, coffees in hand to catch the best waves before the crowds come.

Boquete's fabled beauty allowed his passion for longboard surfing to fall in step with his passion for organic farming and conservation, inspiring Justin to establish Longboard Specialty Coffee in 2003 and fostering synergy with his third, adjacent passion — for wine.

At Longboard, the primacy placed on vintage, variety, and terroir allows for the full, harmonious expression of these factors, resulting in irreplicable coffees that honestly embody their pristine provenance with clarity and depth.

Panama Geisha is a rare, delicate, and complex variety well-loved for its sweet florality and citrus highlights. Since its debut win at the Best of Panama auction in 2004, it has kept specialty coffee lovers everywhere captivated by its endless possibilities, delicacy, complexity, and clarity of flavors.

As such, it is often showcased on coffee competition stages by a great number of coffee champions, and it also continues to fetch the highest prices.

While a coffee’s truest intrinsic qualities are still largely believed to be showcased best by traditional washed processing due to the demucilaging, washing, and scrubbing steps removing all traces of fruit from the bean, the acquired expertise of award-winning producers, like Justin Boudeman and his family, allows them to direct the flavor character of the Panama Geisha towards a seemingly endless diversity of delightfully surprising trajectories through innovative techniques.
