Where Coffee is Remembrance

Abu Coffee: Love Lives in Every Cup

Whenever we remember a loved one we’ve lost, there’s a quiet joy that stays with us — kept alive through memory and, even more so, through the things they loved.

The Abu family of Abu Coffee understand this deeply. Every cup they grow carries their family’s story. After all, Jose Luttrell and his wife Bibiana founded Abu Coffee in honor of Jose’s father, Jose Guillermo Luttrell Tedman — their children’s beloved “Abu” — who dreamed of transforming their family land at Finca Cañas Verdes in Boquete into a source of extraordinary coffee.

Each harvest is a tribute to him.

Guided by the past but always moving forward, the family continues to refine their craft, adapting techniques to reveal the best expression in every bean. That dedication has made Abu a constant presence at the Best of Panama, with their run continuing at BOP 2025, earning 18th place in Geisha Washed and 19th place in Geisha Natural.

The next generation promises to keep the legacy too. Jose and Bibiana’s daughter, Sofia, became the first woman champion of the Panama National Brewer’s Cup. The family’s most meaningful victory yet, following years of recognition at Best of Panama and on competition stages.

And we honor these moments in this latest drop of Abu Coffee brews: Lot 3354’s vibrant fruit, Lot 3365’s floral lift, and Lot 3435’s candied sweetness. Each one is bright and sparkling, like the way Abu Coffee connects the past and present.
